Well yeah, but on the downside they are also more dangerous than finding a new pokemon. You probably won't be this lucky if you try this again. I mean, sure supposedly outsiders can't die but somehow I doubt that extends to pokemon.

And a dead Skarmory is even worse than a slow one, don't you think?
